Valley organizations host BBQ fundraiser for fallen Salt River officer

PHOENIX, Ariz. (FOX 10) - A group of Valley organizations are teaming up to give back to the community, including fallen Salt River Officer Clayton Townsend.

The Phoenix Sergeants Lieutenant Association along with Child Help Charities held a fundraiser Saturday filled with princesses, super heroes and food near Central Avenue and McDowell.

The event included a BBQ dedicated to fallen Salt River Police Officer Clayton Townsend, who was killed in the line of duty earlier this month.

The Phoenix Sergeants Lieutenant Association says it's the least they could do to help the officer's family.

"We help as many as we can, a lot of it is for members who are hurt in the line of duty or have a death in their own families where we will help them out with the needs that they have, we try to help out as many officers who have fallen in the line of duty," said Sgt. Jeff Chapman with Phoenix Police.

Officer Townsend is survived by his wife and baby boy.
