Police: Woman and child dead after hit-and-run crash
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Phoenix Police are searching for the suspect in a hit-and-run crash that left a woman and young child dead near 16th Street and Broadway.
Witnesses reported an older model, dark colored SUV was traveling north on 16th Street when it struck Wanda J. Trujillo, 52, and Enoch Trujillo, 2. They were not in a crosswalk when they were hit and the driver left the scene.
Fire officials pronounced the woman dead on the scene and the child was taken to a hospital where they later died from their injuries.
The woman was the child's grandmother and now a family's world has been shattered before their eyes.
"He's my world, he's my everything and so is my mom," said James Trujillo, the boy's father and woman's son.
Family members say the two were walking back from Circle K. It was a walk they took often on a route normally safe.
"All we want is whoever has done this just to come forward," said one family member. "We hall have children, just be sympathetic and consider others, if you could just turn yourself in."
Police continue to look for the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call the Phoenix Police Department or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
