LITTLETON, Colo. - A Colorado sheriff’s deputy broke a van window to rescue a dog that had been left locked inside as temperatures climbed.

Bodycam footage released by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office captured the rescue.
According to the sheriff’s office, the dog had been inside a silver van for nearly four hours in the parking lot of a recreation center in Littleton, where the temperature reached 83 degrees Fahrenheit.
What they're saying:
"The windows were closed, the doors were locked and there was no visible airflow. The dog was panting heavily, barking and showing signs of heat distress while sitting in direct sunlight," the sheriff’s office said.
The dog was later returned to its owner after veterinary staff examined the animal and determined it was "stable, with only a slightly elevated body temperature."
