PHOENIX (FOX 10) -- Officials with DPS say a trooper will spend the next few days recovering after an accident involving a patrol vehicle.

In a tweet made on the department's verified Twitter account Monday night, officials say the crash happened along Arizona State Route 87 at Slate Creek Hill. The incident happened on Monday. The trooper was at the scene helping a person who was stranded driver at the time. That's when another driver, described by DPS as an "elderly" man, struck the patrol car. A tow driver at the scene had to dive under his truck to avoid getting hit.

DPS officials say the driver involved in the crash told troopers he blacked out prior to striking the patrol vehicle. That man suffered moderate injury. The trooper also suffered minor to moderate injury, but was not taken to the hospital.
