PHOENIX - Maricopa County Animal Care and Control officials says they are having issues keeping their West animal shelter cool with their current system in the extreme summer heat.
A spokesperson with MCACC said the West shelter runs on evaporative coolers but some can't keep up, which makes some kennels hotter than others.
"The county is in the process of replacing those coolers but unfortunately with the way the system runs the replacement will not take place until September," said Jose Santiago, the MCACC Public Information Officer.
FOX 10 has received several messages from viewers about a viral post going around showing pictures of temperatures in the West shelter reaching between 100 to 108 degrees.
Volunteers are working to help keep the animals cool by wetting blankets and towels for them to lay on, keeping plenty of fresh water available, and having ice delivered.
MCACC says these are all temporary solutions and is asking the public to donate portable coolers.
