MESA, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Newly released body camera video shows another violent arrest of a suspect by Mesa Police Department officers.
This new body came video comes after Mesa police released videos of two other violent arrests, including one where an unarmed suspect was punched several times by officers, and another where an officer got rough with a teen suspect.
According to court documents, body cam video from this incident came from an arrest back on January 28 involving Jose Luis Conde, who was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over by police.
In the video, Conde was asked by police to get out of the car since he was a known drug and gun offender and was in an area near Baseline and Sossaman Roads that police say is known for drugs and violence.
After getting out of the car, police say they found bags of cocaine in Conde's sock. One of the officers felt Conde was going to attack him, so he took him to the ground, according to court documents.
Police say Conde ignored their orders to stop resisting, and he pushed and shoved the officers. Two officers suffered minor injuries while struggling with Conde, and police say more bags of cocaine were found in the vehicle.
Police ca ben heard mocking Conde on body camera video, while he was bleeding at the hospital. Police also say he tried to escape.
Conde was booked on a long list of charges, including aggravated assault on police and several drug charges. He also has a history of arrests dating back to 2009 that includes guns, drugs and DUI. He has rejected a plea deal.
On Thursday, Conde appeared along with his mother and attorney Bret Royle, disputing the police officer's account from that night.
"They violated the trust of prosecutors when they wrote reports that they were, at the minimum, embellished if not falsified," said Royle.
"I was the victim of a brutal assault at the hands of Mesa Police officers," said Conde. "I was searched. I was thrown into the ground. I was heaved into a wall. I was tazed. I was punched over and over by multiple cops and gouged in the eye and hit in the head with a massive police flashlight."
Thursday afternoon, Mesa's Police Chief, Ramon Batista, released a statement on the incident.
