Suspect killed in officer involved shooting in Phoenix

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Phoenix Police officials say a suspect has been died following an officer involved shooting Friday evening.

The suspect has been identified as 19-year-old Chukwumankpam Mbegbu.

According to police, the incident happened on the 4000 block of W. Colter, and that officers were responding to a fight call when they encountered a man, Mbegbu, and a woman arguing in an alleyway.

Police say Mbegbu was armed and refused to give up the gun.

Mbegbu pulled the gun over his head and fired a shot towards the officers. That's when officers fired back, hitting him, according to police.

Officials say Mbegbu was taken to the hospital and was later pronounced dead.

Neither the officers or the woman involved were injured, according to police.
