SURPRISE, Ariz. (FOX 10) - Police have arrested a man in Surprise after a double shooting that left two people dead. The shooting occurred near Bullard and Waddell Thursday morning.
Police have arrested 23-year-old Chasten Fairris and have charged him with the murders of 26-year-old Joseph Hutchinson and 29-year-old Ricardo De La Isla.
According to officials, while officers were working to secure the scene in which the two victims were found, the Surprise Police Department received another call reporting that Fairris was banging on his front door. The resident said Fairris had a gunshot wound on his arm and asked the resident to call the fire department, but not the police. Fire personnel then responded and took Fairris to a local valley hospital for treatment.
Police say they responded to a disturbance call just before 4 a.m. Thursday morning. When officers arrived, they found one male individual laying in the roadway with signs of trauma. This individual was later transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police also discovered a deceased individual inside of a car on the scene. A third individual was located nearby with "violent trauma" - he is now receiving treatment at a local hospital.
According to police, while all three individuals have sustained trauma, the extent has not been confirmed. The names of those involved have not yet been released.
During the investigation, detectives with Surprise PD confirmed Fairris was in the area where the deceased were located around the time the incident occurred. The investigators learned Fairris and Hutchinson planned to call De La Isla to get him away from the home and then rob him.
Once Fairris received treatment for his injuries, he was taken into custody. He's booked at 4th Avenue Jail and is charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
