DHS: $3K for undocumented migrants to self-deport

DHS announced a $3k stipend for migrants to self-deport. Secretary Noem posted on X: "This Christmas season, the U.S. taxpayer is generously TRIPLING the incentive for illegal aliens to leave voluntarily. Through the end of the year, illegal aliens who self-deport using the CBP Home App can receive a $3,000 exit bonus. Illegal aliens should take advantage of this gift and self-deport because if they don’t, we will find them, we will arrest them, and they will not return."

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is offering undocumented immigrants $3,000 and a free plane ticket to leave the country.

The offer only stands if they register by the end of the year for self-deportation through the CBP One app.

The offer triples the normal $1,000 monetary incentive offered by President Donald Trump's administration.

What they're saying:

"Illegal aliens who sign up to self-deport through the CBP Home app by the end of the year will receive a $3,000 stipend in addition to a free flight home. Using the CBP Home app also qualifies recipients for forgiveness of any civil fines or penalties for failing to depart the country," a DHS press release said.

Trump cracks down on undocumented immigrants

Big picture view:

The president promised record levels of deportations when he began his second term in January.

And despite some backlash on social media showing legal citizens being detained by ICE agents and this administration’s aggressive immigration policies, Trump is ramping up for 2026 with billions in new funding to further push his agenda.

Tufts student detained by ICE speaks after release

Tufts University student Rumeysa Ozturk speaks out after being released from ICE custody. Ozturk had been held at a Louisiana detention center since March.

The backstory:

In July, Trump signed legislation that infused about $170 billion into border security and immigration enforcement spread out over five years.

ICE is set to get $76.5 billion, nearly 10 times its current annual budget. Some $45 billion will go toward increasing detention capacity. Nearly $30 billion is for hiring 10,000 more staff so the agency can meet its goal of 1 million annual deportations.

New hires include deportation officers responsible for tracking down, arresting and removing people who the administration determines no longer have the right to remain in the U.S.
