PHOENIX - A woman who crashed head-on into a city bus on Monday morning in north Phoenix has died, police said.
The crash happened just after 9 a.m. on April 29 at 19th Avenue and Larkspur Drive.
The driver of the vehicle that crashed into the bus was pronounced dead at the scene. She's identified as Melody Stewart, 31.
"After their initial investigation, detectives learned the passenger car was heading northbound on 19th Avenue from Cactus Road when it veered into the southbound lanes and onto oncoming traffic. The vehicle collided into the west curb just before colliding with a city bus, which was heading southbound on 19th Avenue. The investigation remains open as detectives process the evidence," police said.

Three passengers were inside the bus at the time of the crash. One person was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The other two passengers refused hospital transport.
A man named Dwayne Mims says he was first on the scene trying to help. He was working at an apartment complex nearby when the crash happened.
He ran to the driver of the car.
"Tried to help the lady out, checked the pulse, and she was gone," he said.
The wreckage was clear to see even from the road blocks in place. The sound was easy to hear for residents.
"I heard a big crash, like ‘errrrr.' Like that," said Katherine Moore.
Dwayne said he knew he had to rush in to help.
"That’s what you’re supposed to do, help people out if you can. And I thought I could help her if there was any help to be rendered," Mims said. "It's heartbreaking."
