Deadly shooting investigation in south Phoenix

A man was shot and killed after another man reportedly saw him pull out a gun during an argument at a south Phoenix business on Wednesday night.

A man was shot and killed in south Phoenix on Wednesday night, and police say the suspected shooter is the one who made the 911 call.

The shooting happened around 7 p.m. at a business near 14th Street and Broadway Road

Officers found the body of 52-year-old Jesus Hinojosa-Chavez, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation revealed that Hinojosa-Chavez and the alleged shooter were acquaintances and had some kind of "confrontation" that evening. It is unclear what they were fighting about.

"The man observed Hinojosa-Chavez reach for what he believed to be a firearm," police said in a statement.

Witnesses reported seeing the man shoot the victim in response.

The alleged shooter was released, and police say charges will be submitted for review once the investigation is over.
