Suspect held knife to woman's throat before Phoenix officers opened fire, police say
Phoenix police said a man was found holding a knife to a woman's throat before they opened fire, killing the suspect near 83rd Avenue and Indian School Road on Oct. 11.
PHOENIX - Phoenix police are investigating a shooting involving their officers in the West Valley.
What we know:
Officers responded to a 911 call about a fight at an apartment complex near 83rd Avenue and Indian School Road, around 8:05 p.m. on Oct. 11. They were told that a man and woman were fighting, and that the man was armed with a knife.
At the scene, the man was found holding the woman down on the ground, with a knife to her throat, next to the apartment building.
Police told the armed man to stop, but he continued to hold the knife to her throat.
That's when the shooting occurred.

Phoenix police involved in shooting in West Valley
Police were involved in a shooting near 83rd Avenue and Indian School Road in West Phoenix on Saturday night.

An officer pulled the woman away from the man to get her to safety. The fire department was called to respond, who pronounced the man dead due to his injuries from the shooting.
There were no reported injuries to officers. The suspect has been identified as 47-year-old Francisco Aviles Barcenas.
