For travelers taking trips to Globe or Show Low may need to find an alternate route due to Arizona Department of Transportation construction projects on U.S. 60.

Preparations for two major construction projects are forcing road closures on Wednesday, Jan. 22 and Thursday, Jan. 23. More closures are planned on Jan. 28, 29 and 30.

What we know:

The rock blasting procedure helps construction crews remove large boulders and debris for construction projects like the Queen Creek and Waterfall Canyon Bridge Replacement Projects.

The bridge projects are located on US 60 at mileposts 227 and 229.5 near the town of Superior in Pinal County, according to a release by ADOT.

Speed limits will be reduced to 35 mph in this zone while the construction takes place.

A stretch of US 60 between Miami and Magma Mine road will remain open for local traffic only during the closure, according to a release.

Flaggers will direct traffic during times the closure is lifted.

There are no closures scheduled for the weekend.

During the construction operation, eastbound drivers will be asked to take State Route 177 south to State Route 77 back north to get to Globe.

Westbound drivers will be asked to take the opposite route.

For those traveling northeast to Show Low, taking the S.R. 87 through Payson might be the best alternative.
