MESA, Ariz. (FOX 10) -- The first monsoon of the season had it all: heavy rain, high winds and some hail and dust.

In Phoenix, Sky Harbor Airport had to delay some arriving and departing flights at the height of the storm. The East Valley, however, took the brunt of this storm.

"I've seen it pouring rain, but not wind like that," said one woman, identified only as "Lanette".

Lanette lives near Gilbert and Brown, and she was outside Tuesday as the worst of the storm came crashing down on her home.

"Then I saw the roof just go blowing off, and then Ron standing there in our patio there, and then a bunch of water started coming down on him, he was soaked," said Lanette. "I've never been that scared before."

The entire roof over Lanette's porch and some from the house was ripped off by the powerful winds. The wind was also strong enough to knock over some decades-old trees near Gilbert and McKellips.

"We had no electricity, so we couldn't let up the garage door. We had to end up doing that manually," said one person, identified only as "Jackie". "Then I saw all of this debris I have here and someone had already been so nice to clean part of it up."
