MESA, Ariz. (FOX 10/AP) - Arizona State Lottery officials say a $1 million winning Powerball ticket was sold at a Circle K convenience store in Mesa.
The $1 million ticket was sold at the Circle K located at 3550 E. Main Street. The ticket matched five numbers, but not the Powerball.
In addition to the $1 million ticket, three $50,000 winning Powerball tickets were sold in Arizona.
"We had no idea," said Speedsmart manager Lisa Graham. This is the first time they've sold a winning Powerball ticket. She hopes the winner comes back.
"Yes, we would love to see them, whoever it is," said Graham. "Hopefully it's one of our regulars."
These $50,000 winning tickets matched four out of five numbers and the Powerball.
A few miles away at a Circle K off Main and Val Vista in Mesa, the store is buzzing with talk of a customer becoming a millionaire overnight. A ticket that has all five matching numbers, but not the Powerball, was sold here. It's worth $1 million. Regulars are this store shared their happiness for the mystery winner, although many were mostly jealous.
"I'm mad because it's not me and I don't even get a piece of it," said customer Kimberly Bowen.
While others shrugged their shoulders, still not convinced it's worth the money to buy into a dream of striking it rich.
One non-Powerball customer might finally cave in and buy a ticket, but not because he's feeling lucky.
"When I tell my wife that someone got $50,000 ticket here, she's going to be mad at me for not buying one," said customer Jim Reed.
A single ticket sold in Wisconsin matched all six numbers in the Wednesday night Powerball drawing to win the third-largest jackpot in U.S. lottery history.
