PHOENIX (KSAZ) - With gun control and the NRA on people's minds today, Fox 10 Phoenix wanted to see how Arizonans feel about what should be done to stop deadly school shootings like the one in Florida.
"The NRA isn't the problem. The problem is the people who enforce gun-free zones," said a gun show customer.
As arguments broil against the NRA and those who support the association, there is another conversation about what people deem the real issue is, especially in regards to the tragedy in Florida.
"As long as they have gun-free zones in schools, they are going to continue have these killings," said the customer.
"There is a huge, huge mental health issue in this country that needs to be addressed," said another man.
Students across the nation are standing up and demanding lawmakers to regulate current gun laws. They are demanding these politicians to turn their backs on the NRA.
And as people in the valley made their way into Crossroads of the West Gunshow today, many were not moved or steered by recent events to think differently.
"NRA's got nothing to do with it, with the idiots who are creating these mass shootings. It's disgusting, no sane person supports that, whether you support gun rights or not," said another customer of the gunshow.
But not everyone coming in today voiced support.
"NRA doesn't speak for all gun owners, I suppose," said another man.
Not when it comes to an AR-15 at least, which is the same gun Nikolas Cruz used to kill 17 students and staff in Broward County.
"On the other hand, I'm not sure that private citizens need to own military-style assault rifles."
It does not appear this conversation or this debate is going to slowdown any time soon.
