Artist's mural pays homage to musical legends at Phoenix restaurant

PHOENIX (FOX 10) - "It just says rock and roll right away," Gabe Richardson said. "The passion of music is really what's going to hit people."

Prince, Tom Petty, Chris Cornell, Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain, Freddy Mercury and Jimi Hendrix -- you'll find these musical legends painted into a mural as you enter the new Copper Blues location at Desert Ridge Mall.

The artist behind the image, Gabe Richesson, says the opportunity to paint these musical icons for the Valley to see is a privilege, and what he hopes will be a treat for CB Live customers.

Usually, Richesson paints portraits for professional athletes in the NFL, however, music has always been a part of him, as well.

"I like to play a lot with warm and cool colors and I really tried with this to give your eye a hierarchy so you can notice the rock stars first and the whole painting just hits you in the face," he said.

After hours of brainstorming, Richesson and the restaurant agreed there would be no better place for such a masterpiece than the front entrance.

"We hope people stop and look, admire, take a picture and however we can take this art piece and distribute it to the world, as many eyeballs as we as possible," said Ryan Handelsman of Copper Blues Live.
