Boy dies after being hit by car in Phoenix

A boy died at the hospital after police say he was struck by a car on Monday night near 36th Street and McDowell Road. The boy wasn't identified.

A 4-year-old boy was hit by a car in Phoenix on Monday night and police say he died from his injuries.

What we know:

The Aug. 18 incident happened at around 8 p.m. near 36th Street and McDowell Road.

"When officers arrived, they located an unresponsive male juvenile who had been struck by the vehicle. The Phoenix Fire Department rushed the juvenile to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where he died," said Phoenix Police Sgt. Lorraine Fernandez.

The boy was identified as 4-year-old Miguel Dominguez. The adult driver who hit the boy stayed at the scene.

Investigators say the boy was walking slightly ahead of his mother in the crosswalk when he was hit by the car. The boy's mother was also struck, but she was not hurt.

Impairment is not suspected in the collision.
