Crash in Phoenix kills 2 people: PD

Phoenix Police say two people are dead as a result of a crash in north Phoenix on Oct. 15.

What we know:

According to Phoenix Police, officers were called out at around 2:15 p.m. to the area of 35th Avenue and Union Hills. When officers arrived, they found an SUV and a car that were involved in a crash.

The driver of the SUV, 37-year-old Pedro Cardona, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle was hospitalized in critical condition. The car's passenger, 63-year-old Boniface Black, died at the scene.

What they're saying:

"Preliminary information suggests the SUV was heading westbound on Union Hills Drive, at a high rate of speed, when it ran the red light and collided with the 4-door car, which was making a left-hand turn to go north on 35th Avenue," Sgt. Phil Krynsky said.

What's next:

Per the statement, detectives will continue their investigation into the crash.
