GLENDALE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - A Glendale couple had some terrifying moments, as they were walking their dogs.
It's a story others may be able to relate to. That walk turned terrifying when two dogs broke out of a nearby back yard, and attacked without warning.
The family is now facing mounting vet bills, and they're not sure anything will be done to the other owner.
"My dogs didn't even have a chance to bark or notice the two dogs. Got side tackled," said Jenna Wong.
The attacking dogs locked onto a beagle and a golden doodle. People in this Glendale neighborhood heard it all, and tried to help.
"Guys were on the ground," said Wong. "Had him in a head lock, wasn't working. Squirting water down its throat, wasn't working."
Wong said it took about five minutes to get the last attacking dog off her pet, but the damage was done.
"The beagle had about seven puncture wounds to his face and his head," said Wong. "The golden doodle had big holes in his neck, and had to sew them shut."
Other neighbors were worried something like this would happen.
"I've had neighbors on both sides contact me and say they're scared to have their kids play in the backyard when their dogs are out," said Wong.
The owner of the dogs is just staying with a friend in the community. They promised to cover the vet bills, but they've already moved out, and they're not sure they'll even hear from them again.
"She's supposed to move to a different community, and it breaks my heart thinking of this happen and people have no idea that these dogs are dangerous," said Wong.
Meanwhile, in Arizona, a law called "Fabian's Law" punishes those who allow their "aggressive dog" to attack a person or pet. FOX 10 Phoenix has reached out to Glendale Police to see if this case may qualify.
