BLACK CANYON CITY, Ariz. (FOX 10/AP) - Authorities say a 10-year-old girl was killed in a rollover crash involving a semi-truck along Interstate 17 near Sunset Point on Thursday morning.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the child was killed when a Nissan that was involved in a rollover crash was struck by a semi-truck along southbound I-17 near Sunset Point north of Black Canyon City.

DPS says after the Nissan was involved in a rollover, the 41-year-old driver of vehicle was trying to get his children out when it was hit by the semi-truck.

The 10-year-old girl was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

The 14-year-old boy and his father were both treated at a hospital and have been released.

The driver of the semi-truck, a 60-year-old man from Sacramento, California, was not injured.

Southbound Interstate 17 has reopened near Sunset Point following the crash.

The northbound lanes of I-17 were unaffected by the crash and closure.

The rollover crash and traffic build-up happened in the same area where a $125 million reversible flex lane plan for I-17 has been approved.

Construction will begin in 2021 and will take about two years to finish.

ADOT says the lanes should reduce rush-hour traffic typically within the area and help with backups during accidents.
