El Mirage Police incident ends in deadly shooting, department says

A man was killed in a shooting involving El Mirage Police on Wednesday night.

What we know:

The Oct. 8 shooting happened just before 5:40 p.m. near Cactus and El Mirage roads.

"The male subject has been pronounced deceased, and no EMPD officers were injured," the police department said.

The man was identified as Jeremy Preckel, 44.

Police say he called 911, claiming he was suicidal, and "once officers arrived, Jeremy began walking directly towards them while holding a rifle. Officers on scene discharged their duty weapons, striking Jeremy, who later succumbed to his injuries."
