Glendale PD: Man lying on railroad hit, killed by train

GLENDALE, Ariz. (FOX 10) - An intersection has been reopened after police say a pedestrian was hit and killed by a train overnight in Glendale.

Glendale Police responded to a call just before 3:30 a.m. regarding a pedestrian lying on the train tracks near 6300 NW Grand Ave who had been struck by a train. Medical professionals responded to the scene and attempted to resuscitate the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say the engineer and conductor were traveling just less than 20 MPH southbound when they say 31-year-old Anthony Lee Delgadillo lying across the tracks. Investigators say the conductor and engineer thought what they saw was trash.

After attempting to blow the horn several times and getting no response, they were able to identify what they saw was, in fact, a person and they hit the emergency breaks but were to no avail.

It is currently under investigation as to why Delgadillo was on the railroad tracks.
