Man rescued from top of Camelback Mountain
A man who spent the night on Echo Canyon Trail after getting stuck was safely airlifted off Camelback Mountain on Wednesday morning. FOX 10's Dominique Newland reports.
PHOENIX - A man who spent the night on Camelback Mountain after getting stuck on a hiking trail has been rescued.
What we know:
The Phoenix Fire Department says its rescue crews responded to the mountain at around 8:15 p.m. on Dec. 9 for reports of a hiker stuck at the top of Echo Canyon Trail.
Firefighters say it appears the hiker wasn't hurt, but due to the dark night skies, the rescue operation was delayed.
"It was determined it was too dangerous to perform a rescue at night so crews made a plan to hoist the hiker off as soon as the sun rose," Capt. DJ Lee said.
Capt. Lee also said crews flew a cellphone, water, blankets and food up to the hiker while they continued to formulate a rescue plan.
At around 9 a.m. on Wednesday, the man was rescued via helicopter and flown off the mountain. He was taken to a hospital for precautionary reasons.
No firefighters were hurt.
What we don't know:
The man wasn't identified. It's unclear how he got stuck on the mountain.

Crews working to rescue hiker stuck on Camelback Mountain
The Phoenix Fire Department says it is formulating a plan to rescue a hiker who has been stuck on Echo Canyon Trail overnight. FOX 10's Dominique Newland has the latest.

The Phoenix Police Department says after he's released from the hospital, the man will be evaluated at a mental health facility. He will also be cited by park rangers.
