Man arrested after bringing gun on school campus

A valley man has been arrested after a high school in the Anthem area was placed on lockdown for several hours on Monday after reports of a person with a gun on campus.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office says 18-year-old Luis Barragan has been booked on felony charges after he allegedly brought a gun onto the campus of Boulder Creek High School in Anthem.

Deputies say this whole incident happened because of a bad breakup. The ex-boyfriend of a student, Barragan, went to the campus, confronted her, threatened to kill himself and then took off.

Students have been released from Boulder Creek H.S., but there were some tense moments before they were sent home. Boulder Creek H.S. is located east of Interstate 17, just off Gavilan Peak Parkway and Daisy Mountain Drive.

Deputies from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office were at the scene, along with Department of Public Safety troopers, searching for a suspicious person who was reported to have been seen leaving the school with a gun.

No shots were fired and no one was hurt.
