Armed man dies after being shot by Phoenix Police

A man has died after he was shot by police when he allegedly "advanced" towards a Phoenix officer with a handgun in a neighborhood near 7th Avenue and Yukon Drive.

Phoenix Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting on Sunday morning.

What we know:

At around 11:24 a.m. on Dec. 7., police reported a report of a person with a gun near 7th Avenue and Yukon Drive. Police said the call indicated that the man was seen in the neighborhood, armed with a handgun.

An officer found a man with a handgun at the scene, but the man refused to comply with any commands. 

As the man "advanced in the direction of the officer" with the gun, the officer fired shots.

Dig deeper:

The armed man suffered at least one gunshot wound, and was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.

No officers were injured in the shooting.

What we don't know:

The man's identity, and reason for why he was armed in the neighborhood, were not made known.
