Police: Teen dies after accidentally shooting himself

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - A teen has died after accidentally shooting himself inside a Phoenix apartment.

Phoenix police say the shooting happened at an apartment near 15th Avenue and Missouri on Monday night while two teens were playing with a gun.

A 16-year-old teen was shot in the stomach when the gun accidentally fired. The teen was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition but died overnight.

A 15-year-old teen who was inside the apartment when the gun went off was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing, however, police believe it was an accident.

No charges have been filed at this time.
