SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Scottsdale Police officials are investigating a death along McDowell Road Thursday afternoon.
The incident is unfolding in the area of 68th Street and McDowell, and McDowell Road was closed from 68th Street to 70th Street as a result of the investigation for some time. The roadway reopened Thursday night.
Authorities say a violent offenders task force followed a suspect, who has a history of running from police and had an active felony warrant, at around 2:15 p.m. The task force executed a pit maneuver shortly after following him, and according to Scottsdale Police officials, that's when the suspect took his life.
"A witness in the suspect's vehicle witnessed the suspect put a gun to his head and commit suicide," said Tyler Johnson with Scottsdale Police. "No members of the task force fired their firearms at the vehicle or any person that is related to this incident."
Police officials are interviewing the witness who was in the car with the suspect.
