Police: Woman, 10-year-old son found dead inside Mesa home

Police say a woman and her 10-year-old son have been found dead inside a Mesa home. FOX 10's Brian Webb reports.

Police say a woman and her 10-year-old son have been found dead inside a Mesa home.

According to Mesa police, officers responded to a home near McKellips Road and Mesa Drive at 3:45 a.m. on Thursday morning for reports of shots fired. After arriving at the home, police found the bodies of the woman and her son.

Police say it appears more than a dozen shots were fired inside the home, and at least eight people were sleeping in the mobile home.

The other people inside the mobile home included children and investigators were trying to get a description of the shooter.

The shots startled people living two blocks away from their sleep Thursday morning.

"I was in my bed and it woke me up," said one man, identified only as "Nathaniel". "I had to go check the doors to make sure they were locked."

Of the eight people inside the home, only the woman and her son were hit.

"Scary. I have a six-year-old in. To see something like that in the park, so close to home is a little bit scary," said Dessa Lipusz.

Police are working with residents to identify the shooter, who is still on the loose.

"Awful. I hope they find them really soon because that makes it really scary, especially when you live around here in this neighborhood," said Shelby Carr.

People who live in the area are at odds over how safe the area is, but they say plenty of families and children live in the complex. Until an arrest is made, no one is sleeping easy.
