‘You could have killed my baby’: Family shaken after car crashes into West Phoenix home, drives away

A car reportedly came around the corner when it crashed into the home near 71st Avenue and McDowell Road, sending debris flying toward a mother and her sleeping baby.

A Valley family had a scary wake-up call early Saturday morning after a car slammed into their home near 71st Avenue and McDowell and drove away.

A car reportedly came around the corner when it crashed into the west Phoenix home, sending debris flying toward a mother and her sleeping baby.

Maira Calderon is still in shock.

"It’s scary, they could have killed my baby," Calderon said. "They could have killed him. We were inches away from the corner of the vanity and it could have hit in on his head."

When her husband, Fernando, came outside confused and disoriented, he says he saw a tan or gold Chrysler 300 pulling out of their yard.

"He was just pulling out nonchalant, like nothing had happened," he said.

Their child, Lucas, was born premature and needs an IV. The IV pole flew toward them in the crash.

"He was sleeping right here…and the IV pole was here and it hit him and all this stuff was on me," Maira said. "And I grabbed this pole…and I just picked it up and picked him up so fast and I saw all this stuff. So scary."

Fernando was frantic making sure his family was OK, focusing on his love for his child and the search for the person responsible.

"We’ve been trying for five years to have a baby," the husband said. "She’s had a miscarriage every year and finally he was a blessing. And I want him caught, I want him to pay for what he’s done. We don’t care about the damage, we just care about what he’s done."

"If you did this, you could have killed my baby," said the mother. "You could have killed me. You have family. I know you have some kind of remorse."

No injuries were reported.
