CORMORANT, MINNESOTA - Finally a politician we can trust! Duke, a dog from Cormorant, Minnesota, was recently elected town mayor… for the third time. The nine year-old Great Pyrenees was first elected mayor in 2014 with 12 write-in votes and was such a good boy that he was re-elected again the following year.
Duke's owner, Karen Nelson said, "He's done such great things for the community. I don't know who would run against him!"
Tammy Odegaard, a member of Duke's staff, said that everyone want to "have him put his little paw on the Bible" while taking the oath of office for the first time.
She said, "Of course, he's not going to repeat it, it would be awesome if he would bark, but who knows? He's a country dog, so he's not used to performing on cue."
Steve Sorenson, chairman of Cormorant Township, told Duke at the inauguration ceremony, "You are about to embark upon a great time of service, and tremendous personal and professional growth. If you accept this challenge and these responsibilities, please bark or pant."
Duke panted. It looks like politics really has gone to the dogs!
