Prescott Valley woman sentenced for sex crimes, bestiality

Kelly Rae Smith, 45, has been sentenced to over five decades in prison for sex crimes involving children and a service dog.

An Arizona woman has been sentenced to decades in prison for child sex crimes and bestiality involving a service animal.

Kelly Rae Smith, a 45-year-old Prescott Valley resident, was sentenced to 52 years in prison for four counts of sexual assault on April 1, the Yavapai County Attorney's Office said.

The backstory:

In April 2024, Prescott Valley Police received a tip that Smith made comments on the internet about molesting children she had babysat.

Investigators say they found videos of Smith sexually assaulting a toddler, and performing sex acts with a service dog. Other child pornography videos and internet chats discussing fantasies involving kids were also found, police said.

Smith was arrested in May 2025 and later pleaded guilty to child sex crimes and bestiality charges. As part of her plea agreement, Smith must serve every day of her prison sentence without the possibility of early release – she won't be eligible to be released from prison until 2077, at which point she would be placed on lifetime sex offender probation.

"Heinous crimes"

What they're saying:

"Crimes such as these are shocking and will never be tolerated in Yavapai County. People who choose to sexually abuse children or animals are incredibly dangerous and cannot be reformed," Yavapai County Attorney Dennis McGrane said. "I hope this case motivates the Arizona Legislature to allow juries to impose the death penalty in cases where an adult sexually assaults a child. Doing so would allow appropriate punishment for anyone who chooses to rape a child and will deter others from committing these heinous crimes."
