1 dead in crash involving motorcycle on Loop 202: DPS

A crash involving a motorcycle on a South Mountain Loop 202 off-ramp left one person dead, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.

One person was killed in a crash involving a motorcycle along a Valley freeway.

What we know:

The crash happened on Aug. 7 on the South Mountain Loop 202 eastbound off-ramp at Desert Foothills Parkway, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.

"Two motorcyclists were riding their motorcycles at a high rate of speed when taking the off-ramp. For an unknown reason, both motorcycles failed to negotiate the ramp's curve, lost control of their vehicles and were ejected. One motorcyclist was deceased on scene; the other was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries," stated DPS' Bart Graves.

The ramp was shut down due to the crash, but it has since been reopened.
