Dog flags down police for help

Dog flags down police officer to bring back help for owner in need after a fall at their home in Kansas.

A Kansas police officer responded to what may have been one of the most unusual calls for help of his career.

It was a scene reminiscent of the classic television hero Lassie, as a dog sprang into action to get help for its owner.

The backstory:

The Leawood police officer was patrolling in a residential neighborhood when he spotted a dog in the middle of the road.

Body-cam from the officer shows him pulling up and immediately encountering the dog barking for attention.

The officer attempted to shoo the dog away and back to its home, but he got back in his car and followed the dog about a half block back home.

Big picture view:

The video cuts to the officer following the dog up a driveway to an open garage where the resident and dog’s owner had fallen, unable to get up. The homeowner had been there for over three hours.

Medical personnel were able to treat the resident who is now recovering safely at home.
