Jeffrey "Duke" Roufus, world-renowned MMA coach, founder, and namesake of Roufusport MMA Academy in Milwaukee, has died at age 55.

According to a social media post from the Roufusport MMA Academy in Milwaukee, Roufus died peacefully in his sleep on Friday, Oct. 17.

It has been said you cannot think of mixed martial arts in Milwaukee without thinking of Roufus. 

"Super positive guiding light," said Scott Joffe, Roufus' business partner and friend. ""He didn't care about anything else as long as he could help you become a better person inside or outside of the ring or cage."

Anthony Pettis is one Roufus' most famous protégés and said the news about his death was a big kick in the gut. 

"Me and that guy spent so much time together and the fact that he's gone now is just ....I lost my second dad. It's just a crazy time for me," Pettis said. "Heaven gained a new angel."

Pettis said his career in the UFC would not have been possible without Roufus. 

"I came from nothing, south side of Milwaukee, with a dream and Duke took me under his wing, became a father figure to me, and we went to the top of the world," Pettis said.
