Goodyear Police: 3 suspects arrested in connection with weekend shooting

GOODYEAR, Ariz. (FOX 10) -- Goodyear Police officials announced the arrest of three people, in connection with a shooting that injured one person.

According to a statement released Tuesday afternoon, police identified Rudolfo "Rudy" Valdez-Garcia, 19, as the mastermind of the shooting. In addition, police identify Luis Mendivil, 18, and Adam Perez, 18, as associates in the incident.

The shooting, according to police happened on the night of Saturday, January 5, at a bank parking lot on the 1100 block of N. Estrella Parkway. The victim, who was not identified, was at the parking lot to meet two others, and was in his car waiting when another car drove up. Then, two people wearing hoodies, now identified by police as Mendivil and Perez, jumped out and began shooting. The victim tried to drive away, but was shot in the back. The victim was then found by police near Saddle Mountain Brewery. He was later treated at the hospital and released.

According to police on Tuesday, Valdez​​​​​​​-Garcia was arrested in Buckeye by Goodyear Police on Sunday, while Mendivil and Perez were arrested on Monday in Tolleson. Police say Valdez-Garcia allegedly plotted an armed robbery against the victim with Mendivil and Perez, as a form of retaliation over other stolen property. Multiple guns were seized as a result of a search warrant being served, including a gun believed to have been used in the incident.

Police say all three suspects are facing multiple charges, including attempted 2nd degree murder, attempted armed robbery with a deadly weapon, attempted aggravated robbery, and endangerment. In addition, Mendivil and Perez are facing weapons discharge and criminal damage charges.
