MCAC worker holds pit-in to help dog find forever home

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - This sweet one-eyed pit bull sat at the Maricopa County Animal Control shelter for over a month. The department put her on television and in the newspaper, but no luck finding her a home. So one woman took matters into her own hands.

"I know she's a really good dog, and she deserves a good home, and that's why I'm doing this," said Melissa Gable.

There was something about Lizzy the pit bull that captured the heart of Melissa Gable, the Public Information Officer at MCAC.

"She is very sweet, she loves every person she meets," said Gable.

Lizzy had to have an eye removed after a bad injury, and she sat at the shelter for over a month with no prospects of a forever home. Her breed and the fact she has to be the only dog in the house made it difficult for her to be adopted.

"So I thought I'm going to have some sort of sit-in, and then we're thinking, and we're like call it a pit-in, and we're just sitting here until somebody adopts her," she said.

So yesterday evening Gable moved into the tent and decided to sit and wait for a home for Lizzy.

"I'm going to be here until she gets adopted," said Gable.

Luckily it did not take long for news of Lizzy to spread, and late this afternoon she found her forever home. A family from Phoenix saw Lizzy on FOX 10 Arizona Morning and decided she would make a perfect addition to the family.

Gable said she was prepared to spend another night at the shelter, but luckily she won't need to.
