More than 167,000 pounds of beef, pork, and goat meat recalled

More than 80 tons of beef, pork, and goat meat have been recalled because they were reportedly produced without being federally inspected and had fake U.S. Department of Agriculture marks of inspection.
Big picture view:
The USDA announced the recall of 167,639 lbs. of meat products on Tuesday, after surveillance activities by its Food Safety and Inspection Service discovered the issue. More than 20 individual products (listed below) were affected by the recall and the federal agency cautioned that there may be more items pulled from shelves as its investigation into the matter continues.
The backstory:
The recalled items were produced by North Carolina-based Star Meat Delivery, Inc., across multiple dates, up through September 22, the federal agency explained. All affected products have false marks of inspection with the establishment number "EST 1363," which the USDA noted does not have a federal grant of inspection.
Those items were shipped to A&D Foods in Georgia with the expectation that they would then be distributed for retail sale and to restaurants around the country. The USDA cautions that any product that has the fake "EST 1363" number on it should be considered unsafe to eat.

Why you should care:
The USDA explained that food that gets produced without the benefit of a federal inspection could contain undeclared allergens, harmful bacteria, or other contaminants. As of this time, the USDA says it is not aware of any illnesses linked to the recalled meat, but advises that anyone concerned about an illness or injury should contact a healthcare professional.
The agency is concerned that some of the products may already be sitting in the refrigerators or freezers of people at home or in restaurants and retailers.
What you can do:
Consumers who purchased the meats are urged not to eat them, while restaurants and retailers are advised not to sell or serve them. The products should be thrown away or returned to where they were purchased.
