PHOENIX (AP) -- Police are investigating the discovery of a woman's body inside a beauty and barbershop near 35th Avenue and Camelback. On Saturday, the woman killed was identified as 48-year-old Maria Rivera.
They say a suspect was taken into custody at a nearby park Friday afternoon. He was identified as 52-year-old Jose Rubio Figueroa.
According to police, a letter carrier called 911 after finding the woman dead at Super Imagen Beauty and Barber Shop. Police say Figueroa reported he was cut while attempting to take a knife away from Rivera. Police believe he became involved in some sort of argument with Rivera, leading Figueroa to attack the woman with a knife.
Police also won't confirm how the 48-year-old woman died except to say she had been injured by a cutting.
Investigators are treating it as a suspicious death.
