Police: Phoenix man critically wounded during home invasion

PHOENIX (AP) - A Phoenix man was critically wounded when shot during a home invasion.

Sgt. Jonathan Howard says the man lived at the home and woke up when at least two men entered the home's backyard Thursday morning.

Howard says the man confronted the intruders and was wounded when they exchanged gunfire as the intruders entered the home.

Howard says it appears the wounded man was targeted. He says police are trying to determine why.

Howard says the intruders reportedly arrived in a dark blue or black car and wore dark clothing that included hooded sweatshirts.

The police spokesman says the man's wife and their four children were at home but not injured.

Howard also says it's not known if any of the intruders were injured
