Starbucks applies for Phoenix liquor licenses

Starbucks is known for it's coffee, but they are hoping to expand into the libation business in the Phoenix area.

The chain has applied for liquor licenses at four of its coffee shops in Phoenix, but not everyone is on board with the plan.

The Phoenix Police Department has told the city council they are not recommending the locations get the licenses. The reason being Starbucks is applying for a restaurant liquor license, and the chain does not meet the definitions of a restaurant.

Starbucks Evenings is a concept that the Seattle-based coffee chain wants to bring to Arizona. It would include wine and craft beer sales, along with some food items.

The company hopes to bring the evenings concept to the Arizona Center, 7th St & Osborn, Camelback & 16th St, and 28th St and Indian School Road locations.

Last month Scottsdale approved the licenses for three locations in their city.
