PHOENIX - A murder suspect has been arrested after police say a man's body was found inside the trunk of a car in Phoenix.
What we know:
Phoenix Police say an officer on March 28 "obtained credible information" that a man had been killed near 24th and Van Buren streets, and the victim's body had been placed inside the trunk of a car and driven away from the scene.
The vehicle believed to be involved in the crime was found nearby, and a body was found inside the trunk. The victim was identified as 44-year-old Derek Standridge.
What they're saying:
"Detectives pursued multiple leads and determined that the homicide occurred in a hotel room near 24th Street and Van Buren Street on March 26, 2026," Sgt. Rob Scherer said. "Detectives also identified the suspect as 26 year old Charlie Carldwell."
Carldwell was found on April 1 and arrested. He was booked into jail and is accused of multiple charges, including murder. Police don't believe any other suspects are involved in the crime.
What we don't know:
The motive for the murder is unknown.
