Woman arrested for Phoenix man's murder, police say

A man was found dead inside an apartment and a woman has been arrested in connection to his death, the Phoenix Police Department said.

What we know:

On Jan. 26, Phoenix Police officers arrived at a home near 12th Street and Bethany Home Road for reports of trouble around 10 a.m.

"When officers arrived, they located an adult female inside of a nearby apartment. Upon entering the apartment, an adult male was found with obvious signs of trauma. The man did not survive his injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene," Phoenix Police Sgt. Robert Scherer said.

The woman inside the apartment was arrested and police say she's believed to have killed the man.

She was first taken to the hospital for unrelated medical issues, but was released and booked into jail. She has been identified as 77-year-old Patricia Gaskill.

The victim was identified as 78-year-old Gernon Gaskill.

What we don't know:

Police did not specify the relationship between the suspect and the victim.

Investigators didn't reveal any details about what led up to the victim's death.

Police didn't say what type of weapon was used.
