Deputy US Marshal fatally shot while serving arrest warrant in Louisiana

A deputy U.S. marshal was shot and killed Monday while serving an arrest warrant in Louisiana, authorities said.

According to the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office, deputies were assisting the U.S. Marshals Service's Violent Offender Task Force during an operation to arrest a wanted fugitive Monday afternoon.

The suspect was later wounded and taken into custody after a lengthy standoff with law enforcement.
