Fight at Avondale QuikTrip between two men turns deadly

The Brief

    • A fight between two men at an Avondale QuikTrip gas station ended in a fatal shooting.
    • One man died at a nearby hospital after being shot, while the shooter was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
    • Authorities confirmed the two men knew each other.

AVONDALE, Ariz. - A fight between two men at a QuikTrip gas station in Avondale led to a deadly shooting on Saturday evening. 

What we know:

Avondale Police responded to a shooting at the QT located just off of Avondale Boulevard and Van Buren Street at around 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 22.

Officers said two men were in a physical fight while in the gas pump area, when one of the men shot the other with a firearm. The man who was shot was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died. The shooter was taken to another hospital with non-life-threatening injuries from the fight. 

What we don't know:

While the two men knew each other, their exact relationship is unknown. Their identities have not yet been released.

Dig deeper:

QuikTrip was closed for several hours during the investigation. Police said there is no outstanding suspects or threat to the community.
