PHOENIX, Ariz. (KSAZ) - While you're watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, keep an eye out for some very special participants. Local dancers will be strutting their stuff along the parade route.
"We're going to be dancing two and a half miles," said one dancer.
Seven local dance professionals from Fred Astaire Dance Studios of Arizona will perform at the 2018 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
They will join ballroom dance pros from around the nation to perform a few quick steps as they walk, then perform a routine in front of Macy's Herald Square.
"We leave on Tuesday and it's 38 total couples from around the United States," said one dancer.
"When growing up all you do on Thanksgiving Day is watch the Macy's Day Parade, you never think that you are going to be a part of it because it's so big, it's mentioned in all the shows," said one dancer.
The first Fred Astaire Dance Studio opened in 1947 in New York City. The group is just as excited about the opportunity to go back to where it started as they are about the parade.
"See you in New York!"
This is the 92nd annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. You can catch all the holiday tradition and fun Thursday, November 22 at 9:00 a.m. EST.
The dancers said they are also looking forward to a big turkey dinner after dancing two miles.
