Man claims self-defense in deadly north Phoenix apartment shooting

While at the scene, officers detained a man who claimed he shot the victim in self-defense. The man was released from police custody.

Police say a man claims he shot another man in self-defense during a fight at a north Phoenix apartment complex.

Phoenix Police say 23-year-old Treyvon Simons was found with a gunshot wound at the Tuscany Pointe Apartments just before 11:30 p.m. on March 29. Simons died from his injuries at the hospital.

While at the scene, officers detained a man who claimed he shot Simons in self-defense. The man was released from police custody.

"The investigation will be submitted to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office for further review," Sgt. Brian Bower said.

Deadly shooting at Phoenix apartment complex
