2 detained in deadly south Phoenix shooting

Two adults were detained after a shooting near 27th Avenue and Broadway Road left a man dead, police said.

A shooting on Sunday night in south Phoenix left a man dead. Police say two other men who were detained in connection with the shooting have been released.

What we know:

According to Phoenix Police, officers responded on Aug. 3 to 27th Avenue and Broadway Road for reports of a shooting just before 9:45 p.m.

Once at the scene, officers found 44-year-old Johnathan Rosenlund, who had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene by firefighters.

Two men were detained on the scene.

"The two adult males were transported to the Phoenix Police Department headquarters to be interviewed by detectives. Once the interviews were complete, both were released," police said.

What we don't know:

The men who were initially detaind weren't identified. It's unclear what led up to the shooting.

What's next:

Police say the Maricopa County Attorney's Office will determine a final charging decision once the investigation is complete.
