More than 100 car windows shattered in Queen Creek; suspects sought

QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. (FOX 10) - Imagine walking out to find your car windows were broken out - not a great feeling. Now, think about it happening to more than 100 of your neighbors. That's what took place in a Queen Creek neighborhood this week and investigators are looking for the vandals.

Kathy Hofer has a shop vac full of broken glass that was once the side of her SUV. She discovered it early Tuesday morning.

"I would say I'm probably halfway done," Hofer said. And when I closed the back door, it was shattered. And I could see a spot where a BB had done against the window."

Sadly Hofer has plenty of company. In the subdivision near Sossaman and Quen Creek roads in Queen Creek, someone has shot out dozens of car windows. That's the damage done in just six days.

"We do know it's probably multiple vehicles and multiple people going around at nighttime," said Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office. "And they're shooting out windows with BB guns and they are getting out of vehicles and smashing car windows with unknown objects."

Larry Deeder has had to replace his SUV's black window.

"If they're doing it for a thrill, okay, you're stupid," said Deeder. "You run away and giggle but when you're doing 60+, you've got some other motive."

Deeder says he's most after at the waste of time, law enforcement resources, and money.

"[It] costs us $652 to replace the window," said Deeder. "It's an older vehicle [and] it has Onstar, all those things add up [quickly], even with insurance."

MCSO says it's focusing on tracking these vandals down and is encouraging people with information to call their office with tips.
