PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Police say a man has been hospitalized after being shot by an officer and a woman is in custody following an officer-involved shooting overnight in north Phoenix.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers tried to make a traffic stop on a couple riding on a motorcycle, but when they refused to stop, police observed them driving into a neighborhood near Seventh Street and the Loop 101.
Minutes later, an officer saw the motorcycle lying on the ground, and when the officer went to investigate, he saw a 24-year-old woman lying in the front yard of a home.
The woman was given commands by the officer and when she did not comply, a 43-year-old man came from behind and pointed a gun at the officer. The officer then turned around and shot the man.
The woman then took off running from the scene but was arrested a short time later.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive.
No officers were injured in the shooting.
